Acapulco has been experiencing an ongoing resurgence within the last few years, spearheaded by new hotel openings, spas, and restaurants. But two projects in particular have the pressure of keeping up the momentum on Acapulco’s side.
Mundo Imperial, a $300 million private investment in Acapulco's exclusive Diamante district, opens phase one in November. This project is made up of five portions: the Resort at Mundo Imperial, an 805-room resort; Sol Imperial, a destination spa and wellness center; Expo at Mundo Imperial, a 730,000-square-foot convention and exposition center; Forum at Mundo Imperial, a 4,000-seat theater; and The Promenade, a walkway that will feature six gourmet restaurants and numerous boutiques and gathering spots. Also, La Isla, a new luxury, residential and resort complex is slated to open in December. The La Isla Acapulco Residences will be made up of nine modern towers. The 695 two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments will have ocean views and exclusive access to the property's numerous amenities. The development will also feature the La Isla Acapulco Shopping Village, Acapulco's premier shopping mall located in Punta Diamante. Visit www.gicsa.com.mx/laislaresidences.
These projects are in addition to the many new hotels currently under development in Acapulco, including the cliff-top Banyan Tree Punta Diamante Hotel, which is slated to open in 2009, and AQUA Acapulco Hotel by Group Posadas, which is also slated to open in 2009 among other properties.
