Elewana has launched its new “Explorer by Elewana” collection of upscale safari lodges, which will cater to a wider audience through a more moderate price point, besides a wider range of activities in camp. The first lodge, Serengeti Explorer, is slated to open in January 2024; Ngorongoro Explorer will follow later in that year, while Tarangire Explorer is slated to open in 2025.
Serengeti Explorer is located on the Nyaburo Hills, making it well-suited to watch the "Great Migration." The property is slightly larger than the existing footprint of the Elewana Collection with 70 explorer rooms and five suites. All rooms have a private balcony offering the Serengeti views, and configurations will cater to couples, friends, families and groups of all sizes with interconnecting and wheelchair-accessible rooms.
There will be a range of dining options ranging from a chef’s table with an on-site sommelier and an extensive wine cellar, to a boma restaurant offering a bush dinner of African and Swahili signature dishes. Other on-site dining options, including a main restaurant, poolside bistro, bar, deli and coffee shop, will serve a variety of dishes that celebrate East Africa’s farm-to-table culture.
Serengeti Explorer aims to offer guests a fully immersive holiday experience with a plethora of activities aside from the game drives. The lodge will introduce a children’s bushcraft center for families, and an outdoor cinema that will show African movie classics and current releases.
African culture will be a central theme throughout Serengeti Explorer, which will house an art gallery to showcase local talent. Local crafts will also be available for purchase in the retail center. A photo studio equipped with useful technology and an on-site expert will ensure that guests take away their best images from the experience. Walking safaris with experienced guides will also be available. A stargazing deck with an on-site astronomy guide will enable guests to enjoy a galactic night safari under the sparkling African sky.
Serengeti Explorer is built on the site of the previous Serengeti Sopa Lodge to prevent reconstruction from causing disruption to the environment.
