This past weekend, Puerto Rico debuted some virtual vacations by giving participants the opportunity to dive into the island’s culture with a salsa class, a cocktail tutorial and a cooking demo—all without leaving the safety of their homes.
Now, back by popular demand, Discover Puerto Rico is adding more exciting activities for armchair travelers to enjoy. Starting this week, and through April 30, Discover Puerto Rico will be offering two virtual activities a week, which will be revealed weekly on its social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.). This week’s schedule includes:
- Friday, April 3: Bomba Class with Sheila Osorio and Marcos Peñazola Cruz from 6 – 6:30 p.m. EST. Learn the moves to this traditional Afro-Puerto Rican dance, which was born in the Puerto Rican town of Loiza with Sheila Osorio from Academia de Bomba Talleres N’zambi and musician Marcos Peñazola Cruz, president of Tambores Calientes.
- Saturday, April 4: Cooking Demo with Chef Juliana Gonzalez from Caña Restaurant located at Fairmont El San Juan Hotel on Saturday evening.
For additional ways to explore the Island, future travelers can check out Discover Puerto Rico’s eight-episode content series with Lin-Manuel Miranda, titled “Discover Puerto Rico with Lin-Manuel,” following the Puerto Rican actor, playwright and composer as he visits his favorite locations on the Island. Through the series, they’ll learn all about Lin-Manuel’s favorite attractions including Old San Juan, coffee farms in the central region, La Placita de Güisín, a public art mosaic which commemorates Lin-Manuel's paternal grandfather in Vega Alta, and Isla Verde, a culinary community with beachside escapes.
