Hurricane Humberto, which is currently 700 miles from Bermuda, is forecast to reach the island by Wednesday night, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). A Tropical Storm Watch will likely be required for Bermuda later this afternoon.
Hurricane Humberto is currently a Category 1 storm and is the third hurricane of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season. Weather.com says it’s likely that Humberto strengthens before reaching Bermuda, noting it could become a Category 3 by Tuesday.
The NHC says outer bands of rain associated with Humberto are expected to produce an additional one to two inches of rainfall in the central Bahamas, where the storm is just north of, with isolated storm total rainfall amounts of six inches.
Additionally, according to the NHC, swells generated by Humberto will affect the northwestern Bahamas and the southeastern coast of the United States from east-central Florida to North Carolina during the next few days. These swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
Keep an eye out for another low-pressure system in the Atlantic. Showers and thunderstorms associated with it have increased this morning and environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for the formation of a tropical depression during the next couple of days while the system moves slowly northwestward to west-northwestward. The NHC reports a 60 percent chance of formation in the next 48 hours and a 90 percent chance through five days. CNN meteorologist Michael Guy says Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands should prepare for a possible hurricane late next week.
