The Nevis Island Administration’s ministry of health has reported that the island currently has no active cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus). The last confirmed case on the island was reported on April 6, which brought the total number of cases in Nevis to four, and the total number throughout the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis to 11. Those four patients have since recovered, and there are currently no active cases of the COVID-19 virus in Nevis.
In sharing this information, the CEO of the Nevis Tourism Authority, Jadine Yarde, said, “We are thrilled to be at this stage. This is an important step towards easing the current restrictions in place. However, we must remain steadfast in the coming weeks and months to ensure that our population remains virus-free and we can steadily transition towards a more familiar way of life.”
Despite this encouraging milestone, officials remain vigilant in the fight against the virus and are taking every precaution to ensure the public’s health and safety. These efforts include the implementation of the Nevis Health App, used for tracking and reporting possible symptoms to health officials to make certain that those in need of medical attention can access it immediately.
Furthermore, public sector officials are working closely with the private sector and, in particular, hotels that have made resources available to assist local communities during this time. Nevis has also assembled a task force for the purpose of compelling compliance by businesses and individuals with health and safety measures mandated by the government.
