The Dutch Caribbean island Saba has welcomed the opening of the 27-room Saba Arawak Hotel, along with increased air and ferry service to the island.
New Hotel
Officially opened in May, Saba Arawak Hotel is set on a hillside in Windwardside and named for the Arawak indigenous people that inhabited Saba during the eighth century. Now the destination’s largest property, it significantly boosts accommodation inventory on the five-square-mile island. Spread across four buildings, the all-suite hotel has 24 junior suites and three large one-bedroom suites, all with private balconies and fully equipped kitchenettes.
Guests will enjoy the views of the azure Caribbean water and surrounding mountainside from its outdoor swimming pool and sundeck, as well as its guestrooms. Soon to open is the hotel’s bar and restaurant, which will be run by the owners of the popular local spot Liam’s Cuisine Bar & Restaurant and offer Asian and Caribbean dishes.
Increased Airlift and Ferry Service
Starting June 1, 2022, Winair increased its services to Saba with twice daily flights. This adds flights on Wednesdays and Thursdays, which had been dropped during the pandemic.
From May 15, The Edge Ferry resumed service on Sunday, adding to its Wednesday and Friday for a schedule of three round-trips weekly.
Entry Requirements
Saba eased its entry requirements effective May 1. All visitors to the island are no longer required to have a pre-travel test or an EHAS entry form. Post-arrival testing for incoming travelers has also been dropped and masks will no longer be mandatory for day-trippers. It is important for all visitors in transit traveling to and from St. Maarten to follow that island’s entry requirements which remain in effect and include a completed EHAS form.
