A-ROSA has commissioned a new river cruise ship from the Concordia Damen shipyard in the Netherlands, to be delivered in early 2021. The new vessel will be used primarily on the northern Rhine, departing from Cologne and calling at Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Bruges and Antwerp.
Note on the destination: The Rhine is known as a prominent wine region. The Flames festival—the main annual festival linked with river cruises in the region—marks the wine harvest season. A-Rosa operates in conjunction with this event, running five weekends from May to September.
Family-Friendly Travel Notes
Children aged 15 and under travel free, and during the school holidays there is a ship in each of A-ROSA's regions of operation servicing childcare from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Kids' Club.
Space for Relaxation
Accommodations include 140 cabins. The double cabins cover an area of approximately 226 square feet. Along with a larger bathroom, each one has a dedicated sleeping area and a living area. In addition, the cabins outside the Family Area each have a large balcony with seating for two people.
The new ship will include a restaurant dishing out five-course meals. Guests will also be able to recharge their batteries in the extra-large spa and wellness area—featuring a sauna, whirlpool, ice room, heated loungers and treatment areas.
All crew members onboard will be accommodated in one- or two-person cabins. There will also be an extra-large mess room with its own kitchen so that the crew can eat together. The crew will also have their own dedicated space to relax.
E-Motion Ship for Cleaner Cities and Rivers
Like all the other ships in the fleet, the new vessel will be equipped with a shore power connection, allowing for battery charging overnight, so the ship can leave the city without creating any emissions. Along with A-ROSA's usual energy-saving and environmental protection features, the new ship will also have an optimized hull design and use "DACS" air-bubble technology—patented by the Damen shipyard—to lower fuel consumption. Once the second ship—planned for 2023—joins the fleet, A-ROSA anticipates the prototype's innovations to be further optimized.
