American Cruise Lines’ first "modern riverboat," American Song, sailed from the East Outfitting Basin at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, MD to the yard’s outfitting bulkhead to receive some final touches. The ship will begin its first cruise October 6 on the Mississippi River in New Orleans.
American Song, following the American Constitution earlier this year, will be the second ship the line will introduce in 2018. It will spend the rest of the year offering the line’s Lower Mississippi River itineraries, with some holiday-themed cruises also available in December. Next year, the ship will move to the West Coast for trips along the Columbia and Snake Rivers.
Currently five and a half weeks ahead of schedule, American Cruise Line’s second modern riverboat, will finish work this fall. American Harmony will begin officially sailing on the Mississippi River in spring 2019, joining two of the line’s Victorian-style paddlewheelers, Queen of the Mississippi and America. Like American Song, the ship is being designed and built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding.
American Cruise Lines offers over 35 itineraries to 25 states, sailing rivers and coastal and inland waterways. It operates a fleet of paddlewheelers, coastal cruise ships and modern riverboats. Its 10 ships sail itineraries that range from five to 22 days. The line offers travel throughout New England, Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, the Mississippi River system and the Southeast.
