American Cruise Lines has announced that its new riverboat will be named American Song.
The first ship in the line’s new Modern Riverboat Series, American Song will sail its inaugural season in fall 2018 on the Mississippi River, before continuing on to the West Coast in 2019 for American Cruise Lines’ Columbia and Snake River itineraries.
Built to be wider, faster, and quieter than other river cruise ships, American Song will also incorporate a number of environmentally friendly features, American Cruise Lines said. The ship will be a new build, and will be U.S. built, crewed, and flagged.
Signature interior design elements will range from a four-story glass atrium to spacious lounges. Designed to bring the outside world in, American Song will have sweeping views throughout the ship, American Cruise Lines said. The ship will also offer guests large staterooms, private furnished balconies, full-size bathrooms and a number of other amenities. The new ship will accommodate 200 guests.
The new riverboats are the latest step in American Cruise Lines’ ongoing expansion. The company just launched the American Constellation coastal cruise ship this year. After an inaugural season sailing Chesapeake Bay cruises and the line’s Grand New England itinerary, the American Constellation is headed to Alaska for the 2018 summer cruise season, where it will sail itineraries ranging from eight to 15 days. Ports of call will include Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Petersburg and Kake, along with special access to Glacier Bay.
American Constellation's sibling vessel, American Constitution, is under construction at Chesapeake Shipbuilding of Salisbury, MD, with an expected delivery date in 2018.
