Carnival Cruise Line has become the latest cruise line to modify itineraries to avoid the path of Tropical Storm Dorian. The line reports that it has adjusted the itineraries on the August 27 Carnival Sunrise sailing out of New York and on the August 24 sailing on Carnival Breeze out of Port Canaveral.
The Carnival Sunrise will modify the order at which it calls at the ports of Grand Turk, San Juan and Amber Cove, which had previously been scheduled for August 30 and 31 and September 1. Instead, the ship will call at the ports in the order of San Juan, Amber Cove and, lastly, Grand Turk. The Carnival Breeze will replace its planned call at San Juan that had been scheduled for August 28 with a day at sea.
Previously, Royal Caribbean had modified itineraries of the Symphony of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, and Harmony of the Seas from Eastern to Western Caribbean routes.
According to the latest forecast, the center of the storm is expected to move across the eastern and northeastern Caribbean over the next few days, passing near or south of Puerto Rico on Wednesday, moving near or over eastern Hispaniola Wednesday night and moving north of Hispaniola on Thursday. On Thursday night and Friday, the center of Dorian is expected to move near the Turks and Caicos and the southeastern Bahamas.
The NHC says that the storm is expected to strengthen slowly over the next 48 hours, growing to near hurricane strength when it moves close to Puerto Rico and eastern Hispaniola.
