Celebrity Cruises has cancelled a sailing on the Celebrity Summit in order to work on an electrical issue in the ship’s propulsion system, the line said in a statement provided to Travel Agent.
In order to accommodate the necessary repairs, the ship must go into drydock, which will result in the cancellation of its April 8 sailing. The ship’s April 15 sailing will be shortened to a four-night itinerary, departing San Juan, Puerto Rico, on April 18. The ship is expected to return to its regularly scheduled sailings on April 22, Celebrity said.
The ship’s April 18 sailing departing from San Juan will now call at St. John’s, Antigua; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; and Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, before returning to Puerto Rico. Following that itinerary its next regularly scheduled sailing is a seven-night cruise departing April 30 from the New York-area Cape Liberty, NJ, spending two days at sea and calling at Kings Wharf, Bermuda, for three days, before spending another day at sea and returning to Cape Liberty.
Celebrity said that passengers on the canceled sailing will receive a full refund and a 25 percent credit of the cruise fare paid for a future cruise, plus $200 per person to cover any flight change fees. Travelers on the shortened sailing will receive a direct refund for three nights, plus an onboard credit worth the value of one night of the cruise fare paid and up to $200 per person for airfare change fees and hotel costs in San Juan.
