Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Equinox has embarked on its first sailing since a 29-day drydock, the first in the cruise line’s $500 million Celebrity Revolution fleet upgrade project designed to bring its ships more in line with the recently launched Celebrity Edge.
The drydock added The Retreat for suite guests, which includes the exclusive The Retreat Sundeck and The Retreat Lounge, which was formerly Michael’s Club. Additionally, the Silk Harvest restaurant has been transformed into Qsine, which will host two of Celebrity’s newest dining experiences – Le Petit Chef and Friends and the original Le Petit Chef – which bring animated characters to life on the tabletop using 4K projection mapping technology.
In other food and beverage updates, the Passport Bar has been completely reimagined, while the Gastrobar has been revamped into Craft Social, serving more than 40 craft beers, wine and cocktails on tap, as well as comfort food.
Staterooms and suites have also been refreshed suite-wide, with all accommodations receiving the cruise line’s eXhale bedding collection with king-sized cashmere mattresses.
The ship has also launched a new partnership with the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, featuring STEM-focused programming offered as part of the Camp at Sea for young cruisers.
The line also added a number of new tech upgrades across the ship, including RFID locks and upgraded wi-fi, as well as facial recognition technology on the Celebrity Cruises app to enable smooth port arrival and expedited boarding. Other new app features include guest-to-guest chat and digital room keys.
In The Spa by Canyon Ranch, a number of new treatments and products are now available, including three new Signature Couples’ treatments, Dyson Supersonic blow-outs at the Canyon Ranch Blow-Out Bar, Mink and Rapid Lash services, and new customized facials by Reveal Machine, among others.
Finally, the drydock added a new watch boutique featuring Shinola, Hublot and other Swiss watch brands.
Next up for Celebrity is the revitalization of the Celebrity Silhouette, which is scheduled for completion January 31, 2020. Five more ships are set to be modernized by 2023.
