Cruise and Maritime Voyages (CMV) has announced that it will be the first-ever cruise line to sail from Puerto Peñasco. CMV’s Treasures of the Sea of Cortez itinerary will sail round-trip from Puerto Peñasco to ports of call in Sonora, Sinaloa and Baja California Sur, including Puerto Topolobampo, Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Loreto, Santa Rosalia and Guaymas. As part of CMV’s new “Voyages of Exploration” collection, travelers can explore the Sea of Cortez with the introduction of its new 12-day expedition cruise program. The itinerary also offers Arizonians the opportunity to embark on a cruise from their closest sailing port.
On CMV’s new Treasures of the Sea of Cortez itinerary, guests will embark in the seaside town of Puerto Peñasco, also known as “Rocky Point,” and sail along to Topolobampo. Next, travelers will be able to explore the coastal boardwalk of Mazatlan, and then relax and rejuvenate in the resort town of Cabo San Lucas. From there the cruise heads to the beach town of La Paz. Later, travelers can spend time in Bahia Loreto, a destination that has excursions such as kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling and diving. Treasures of the Sea of Cortez will takes guests next to Santa Rosalia, and then on to Guaymas, after which the cruise sails back to Puerto Peñasco.
This voyage will be operated by the Astoria. The Portuguese-registered cruise ship has a capacity of 550 guests and offers a wide selection of public lounges and cabin accommodation spanning eight passenger decks. Structured as an “inclusive” cruise, Treasures of the Sea of Cortez includes the cruise program, accommodations, all shipboard gratuities, lecture series throughout the cruise and house beer and wine with lunches and dinner onboard.
CMV’s Treasures of The Sea of Cortez also presents pre- and post-cruise opportunities in Arizona and Mexico. CMV said it will announce details soon, including hotel and transportation options to the Port of Peñasco with stays in Phoenix, Tucson and Peñasco.
The program is available for departures on select dates in December 2019 and in January and February of 2020 with rates starting at $1,599 USD per person.
