Travel Agent had the chance to tour Oceania Cruises’ recently renovated Insignia while the ship was docked in New York City to kick off its latest World Cruise. The 684-passenger luxury cruise ship just wrapped a drydock that was part of the cruise line’s $100 million OceaniaNext fleet renovation project.
Overall the redesign, which was helmed by Miami-based Studio DADO, gave the ship a lighter, more modern look, emphasizing light blue and tan hues. The new décor was present in the ship’s restaurants, lounges and bars, suites and staterooms.
Other notable touches: based on guest requests, the showers in the stateroom bathrooms now have sliding glass doors, an upgrade from the previous shower curtains. The bathrooms also received new fixtures and surfaces, with Carrara marble, polished granite and onyx in the Penthouse, Vista and Owner’s Suites. The ship’s grand staircase was also revamped with crystal accents and a new overhead chandelier.
One space, however, was left completely unchanged, design-wise: the ship’s Library. Since this spot was a favorite with guests onboard, the line decided to leave its look the same, we were told, although the carpeting and furnishings were refreshed.
All told, the OceaniaNext fleet enhancement project will eventually encompass all four of the line’s R-class ships. Next up is the Sirena, scheduled for a drydock this May, followed by the Regatta in September 2019 and the Nautica in June 2020.
