Emerald Waterways has announced it will add two new eight-day cruises along the Danube River next year. The Classic Danube cruise, going from Nuremberg to Vienna, and the Lower Danube Waltz, sailing from Vienna to Belgrade, will offer two unique styles of travel.
The Classic Danube will cater to guests who would prefer to spend longer stretches of time in larger cities. Traveling slower than the other cruise, this itinerary will offer passengers a full day and overnight in Nuremberg and Vienna.
In Nuremberg, travelers will be given a tour of the WWII Documentation Center and rally grounds and learn about military history. They’ll also explore the medieval town’s cobbled streets, tasting Nürnberger sausages and visiting biergartens and cafes. While in Vienna, guests can drive on or bike along the Ringstrasse, passing the Opera House, Burgtheater, Town Hall, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Hofburg Imperial Palace. Along the rest of the cruise, passengers will stop in Regensberg and Passau in Germany and Melk and Dürnstein in Austria.
The Lower Danube Waltz is designed for travelers looking to see new things, traveling from Vienna to Belgrade. A full day will be spent in Vienna and Belgrade, as well as shorter trips to small towns along the way.
In rural Osijek, guests will have a traditional Croatian lunch in a local family’s home, learning about the area’s culture. In Novi Sad in Serbia, the visitors will pass through the town’s old quarter, Stari Grad, and see the Gothic Revival Name of Mary Church. In Belgrade, travelers will see Tito’s Memorial, Fortress Kalemegdan and the largest orthodox cathedral St. Sava Church.
The two new cruises are in addition to three preexisting Danube itineraries, including Danube Delights from Budapest to Nuremberg, Danube Explorer from Passau to Budapest and Enchantments of Eastern Europe from Budapest to Bucharest.
