A fire broke out Monday on A-Rosa’s Riva river cruise ship, a representative of the cruise line tells travel agent.
The fire took place while the ship was cruising the Danube in the Wachau area. There are no injuries, and all 150 passengers and 40 crew on the ship are safe, the representative says.
The fire was located in the ship’s sauna, and forced the evacuation of all passengers and crew to another vessel, from which they were transferred to land. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.
The ship is unable to continue with its planned itinerary, although based on current information the ship is maneuverable, the representative says. The ship is currently in the Austrian Melk and awaiting release by authorities. Once the ship is released, it will depart for the shipyard in Linz.
Guests were accommodated in hotels overnight and will begin making their way home today.
The A-Rosa Riva is not an international ship and serves the German market only. No passengers from the United States were onboard, the representative says.
The A-Rosa Riva offers guests a sun deck, heated outdoor pool, outdoor restaurant on the aft deck and activities like shuffleboard, putting green and giant chess board. There is also a café bar and Panorama Lounge with a bar and dance floor.
