Following the delivery of Nieuw Statendam on November 29, Holland America Line marked the opening of another Rudi’s Sel de Mar aboard the ship with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The contemporary seafood restaurant Sel de Mer first opened in 2016 on the Koningsdam and has since been introduced as a pop-up location on all the line’ ships as Rudi’s Sel de Mer.
Rudi Sodamin, the venue’s namesake and the chairman behind the Holland America Line’s Culinary Council, performed the honor of opening the restaurant and welcomed its first guests. Attendees included Carnival Corporation’s chairman Micky Arison and CEO Arnold Donald, the CEO of Holland America Group and Carnival UK Stein Kruse, Holland America Line’s president Orlando Ashford and the ship’s entire culinary service crew.
Rudi’s Sel de Mer will serve an à la carte menu of new items, as well as popular dishes. With daily specials also available, the main menu will include Broiled Lobster Tail, Whole Dover Sole Meunière, Clams au Beurre, Duck Cassoulet, Steak Frites, Soufflé au Fromage and the popular Salt Crust Baked Branzino. Additionally, the dessert menu will offer Rudi’s Face to Face Chocolate, Crêpes Suzette, Apple Tarte Tatin, Profiteroles with Hot Chocolate Sauce, Artisanal French Cheese Plate and Rudi’s famed Soufflé.
Nieuw Statendam began its inaugural voyage December 5, sailing from Civitavecchia, Italy for Fort Lauderdale, Florida. From here, the ship will offer a full season of Caribbean itineraries.
