Ahead of its 2020 season, Hurtigruten’s polar exploration ship MS Fram will undergo a total makeover. Changes will include new suites, new cabins, the introduction of Hurtigruten’s signature ‘Science Center,’ new restaurants and more environmentally friendly engines.
Hurtigruten plans to fully refurbish all its cabins and suites, adding granite, oak, birch and wool to create a more relaxed and stylish look. Guests will have an additional place to meet and socialize with the new edutainment area, the Science Center. The space will feature touch screens, science equipment and other interactive features for guests to learn more about the areas they travel through.
MS Fram’s main restaurant will be transformed to the social and informal Restaurant Aune. The Qilak Observation Lounge will also be completely refurbished and become the Explorer Lounge & Bar. Hurtigruten will introduce a new culinary offering, Lindstrøm. A high-end fine dining restaurant, Lindstrøm will serve modern cuisine rooted in traditional Norwegian cooking.
Elsewhere in the ship, MS Fram will receive some major technical upgrades, including upgrades to bring its engines to the highest environmental standards. The change is part of a series of sustainability efforts the cruise company has taken, such as banning all single-use plastics and planning to roll out three hybrid powered cruise ships by 2021.
