Private boating company Le Boat acquired Scottish-based West Highland Sailing last week. A franchise partner for 17 years, West Highland Sailing joined Le Boat as its owners Ray and Mary Norris retired.
The couple first founded West Highland Sailing in 1982 and has since grown their fleet to a total of 13 yachts, 10 of which Le Boat has now acquired. Based in Laggan in Scotland, the yacht company provided boating holidays on the Caledonian Canal. Le Boat will continue to organize trips along the canal, one of nine destinations the company operates in.
According to Cheryl Brown, the managing director for Le Boat, the company has experienced long term growth in Scotland, with a five percent increase in visitors this past year. With Le Boat’s acquiring of West Highland Sailing, the Caledonian Canal team will “continue as normal.”
Le Boat, a part of the Travelopia Group, organizes boating holidays on Europe and Canada’s inland waterways. The company operates more than 900 self-drive boats in nine different countries from 39 departure bases.
Customers who boat multiple times a year can participate in Le Boat’s Ownership Programme. Le Boat transfers ownership of the boat to the customer and insures, maintains and takes care of mooring fees. Participants have eight weeks to sail their boat, or a sister boat, along the company’s network of destinations.
