Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic welcomed the company’s second completely new build, the National Geographic Venture, at a christening ceremony November 30. Held in San Francisco, the event was followed by a two-night VIP mini expedition hosting travel agency partners, affinity/charter partners, media and other special guests.
Lindblad Expedition’s CEO Sven Lindblad presided over the christening ceremony, joined by Gary Knell, the chairman of National Geographic Partners, and the ship’s captain Andrew Cook. Lindblad thanked the crew and those who worked to make the National Geographic Venture possible.
“I am very, very, proud,” said Lindblad. “It’s comfortable, nimble, and with massive amounts of glass, our guests will constantly be connected to the outside world.”
The 50-cabin National Geographic Venture is the sister ship to the National Geographic Quest, which launched in 2017. Built entirely in the United States, the Venture has been designed around photography and sightseeing. The ship’s lounge acts a moving window to the outside world and its bow will even have a Lindblad-National Geographic certified photo instructor on hand to help passengers. The National Geographic Venture features the B&H photo gear loaner program, which allows guests to try out the latest lenses, camera bodies and binoculars aboard the ship.
The ship is now sailing along the Pacific coast on two new and unique inaugural itineraries. When its official season begins, the National Geographic Venture will sail in Baja, the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
