U.S. river cruise line The American Queen Steamboat Company has announced that Marissa Applegate will be named the godmother of the brand’s all-new, all-suite American Duchess riverboat. Marissa Applegate is the daughter of The American Queen Steamboat Company chairman John Waggoner, and her father will name her as the ship’s godmother in a christening ceremony to take place on August 14 in New Orleans. Highlights of the ceremony include performances by local musicians and a bottle of Maker’s Mark bourbon shattering against the ship’s bow.

In addition the American Duchess will also provide overnight port stays in Nashville as it sails the Mississippi. Shorter roundtrip itineraries are also available from Nashville and New Orleans. For the first time with American Duchess, travelers can also depart from Ottawa, Illinois—just outside of Chicago. Voyage lengths starting from six days and up are available, with fares beginning at $2,999 per guest, including pre- and post-cruise luxury hotel stays, all drinks and dinners as well as complimentary shore adventures in each port of call.
Marissa Applegate herself is the middle daughter of John Waggoner, and works as a registered nurse at Rady’s Children’s Hospital in San Diego. Both Marissa and her father are also avid endurance athletes, having competed in a variety of events including the Registers Annual Great Bike Ride Across America, a 500 mile bike ride, a 200 mile RAGNAR Relay team race event, the SOMA Half Ironman and the LA Marathon.
