Pandaw Cruises has introduced its newest vessel: the RV Sabei Pandaw. The new river cruise ship is set to deploy in September 2019, and will offer expeditions from Laos to China along the Mekong River.
The ship will travel between Vientiane, the capital of Laos, to Jinghong, China and go through Thailand and Burma. The itinerary will include stops in all four countries, allowing guests to go on expeditions ashore, either on foot or by mountain bike.
The highlights of the journey will include trips to the ancient Laos capital of Luang Prabang, tribal villages, national parks, and the Mekong River itself, which can be wild and dramatic at times.
The ship itself is a double-decker, 45 meter-long vessel specifically designed to deal with the shooting rapids in the Laos gorge. Plus, it is a shallow draft ship, which will enable year round passage across Yunnan into China.
The RV Sabei Pandaw will have only 12 classic staterooms; eight on the main deck and four on the upper level. The cruise will also have an open plan saloon with both indoor and outdoor dining experiences. Cuisine on board will be a mix between Laos, Thai, and international dishes available upon request.
The introduction of the RV Sabei Pandaw is another indication of the cruise line's growing business in Laos. Just two years ago, Pandaw opened luxury river expeditions in Laos for the first time, and then after its success added a second ship in 2016 that expanded its services from Laos to Thailand. According to Marco Rosa, the VP of Sales and Marketing at Pandaw, the RV Sabei Pandaw was made to accommodate the rising business.
“We have seen considerable demand for Laos and this current year both our ships are more-or-less full. This new vessel will really help satisfy that demand,” said Rosa.
