Quark Expeditions has announced that their new polar vessel, the Ultramarine, is ready for booking during an inaugural Arctic season with voyages to Spitsbergen, Greenland and the Canadian Arctic. This season will include many new excursions and amenities exclusive to the Ultramarine and Quark Expeditions, the cruise line said.
Quark said that the Ultramarine combines new technology and advanced safety systems for polar expeditions. Additionally, in keeping with the brand’s Polar Promise sustainability framework, the Ultramarine will include technical features that will minimize the ship’s environmental footprint.
New itineraries for Arctic 2021 made possible by the Ultramarine’s unique capabilities include Greenland Adventure; Arctic Express Canada: The Heart of the Northwest Passage, which offers a way to experience Canada’s Arctic in nine days; and Canada’s Remote Arctic: Northwest Passage to Ellesmere and Axel Heiberg Islands.
The Ultramarine and its two twin-engine helicopters will offer a number of off-ship activities, including heli-hiking, heli-landing, flightseeing, alpine kayaking, a Greenland camp experience, mountain biking and an ice sheet experience. Ultramarine will also house 20 Zodiacs in a hangar close to the waterline, allowing guests to get off the ship in half the time of that of industry averages, Quark said, to enjoy more spontaneous adventures than previously possible.
The Ultramarine will join the Ocean Adventurer in a season that will explore a wide range of destinations including Spitsbergen, Greenland, Iceland, Canada’s Northwest Passage and Russia’s most remote high Arctic.
