Princess Cruises announced it plans to finish upgrading the Regal Princess with the company’s new OceanMedallion technology in time for the ship’s Caribbean season next February. The award-winning technology, already rolled out aboard the Caribbean Princess, is designed to ease the passenger experience by offering personalized service.
The OceanMedallion, winner of a CES 2019 Innovation Award, is a wearable device that interacts with smart phones and technology throughout the ship to provide a variety of services. Guests can order drinks through their smart device and have them delivered to them throughout the ship. The OceanMedallion acts as passengers’ room key, automatically opening the doors to their staterooms. Between passengers’ OceanMedallion and the ship’s OceanCompass, guests can receive point-to-point directions to anywhere within the ship.
Princess MedallionClass ships will offer a host of additional new features, including: OceanCasino, a selection of real gambling games available on guests’ smart devices and portals throughout the ship; OceanView, a streaming service with hundreds of hours of content; PlayOcean, using smart devices and the ship’s portals, passengers can play a variety of family games throughout the ship; and MedallionNet, a fast and unlimited Wi-Fi service.
Regal Princess is currently undergoing the necessary updates to operate the OceanMedallion technology. Princess Cruises expects it will be fully activated when the ship begins its Caribbean season February 17, 2019.
