Royal Caribbean International has cut the first piece of steel on its second Quantum Ultra Class ship at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, marking the official start of construction. The 27th ship in the global cruise line’s fleet is set to be named Odyssey of the Seas. The announcement came from Richard Fain, chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., and Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International. Set to debut in fall 2020, Odyssey of the Seas will sail from the United States.
The first Quantum Ultra-Class ship, Spectrum of the Seas, is set to debut this year. The 4,246-passenger ship will specifically be designed for guests in China and the Asia-Pacific Region and feature new amenities and guest experiences, including keycard access, a private elevator, a dedicated restaurant and lounge, exclusive amenities and access to The Balcony for sunbathing for Golden and Silver Suite guests. The ship's two megablocks were merged and fastened together at the same shipyard as Odyssey of the Seas.
Royal Caribbean International says it is the world’s largest global cruise line, offering vacations with itineraries to the more than 260 destinations in 72 countries on six continents, including Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day Island Collection, including its private island in the Bahamas, Perfect Day at CocoCay. In summer 2020, Perfect Day at CocoCay will have 10 cruise ships from more ports than any previous development, including Galveston, Texas, as well as Barcelona, Spain, on Allure of the Seas and Rhapsody of the Seas' transatlantic sailings in November 2020.
