Royal Caribbean has announced that Explorer of the Seas will undergo a $110 million dollar amplification project set to debut in May 2020.
Here’s a look at some of the details:
Top Deck Upgrades
The project will completely revamp the ship's top deck. Family-favorite activities, such as the FlowRider surf simulator and the Sports Court, will be joined by waterslide duo Cyclone and Typhoon on the ship’s new attraction, The Perfect Storm. The new waterslide duo will each be three stories high and filled with twists and turns.
For guests who prefer to hang poolside, the ship’s reimagined poolscape will have a new resort-style look with seating that ranges from hammocks and daybeds to casitas and in-pool loungers.
Additionally, Explorer of the Seas is welcoming Royal Caribbean’s signature poolside bar, The Lime and Coconut. The three-level bar will serve live music, signature cocktails and ocean views from its rooftop deck.
Dining
Guests will also be able to enjoy more dining options aboard Explorer of the Seas. The ship’s new amplification expands on its offering of restaurants, bars and lounges, as well as introduces new venues such as Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen.
Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen is the cruise line’s new take on its signature Italian restaurant. The updated trattoria will provide guests with a casual setting and offer classics, such as hand-tossed pizza, with a contemporary flair. The menu will also include a variety of wines and limoncellos from Italy.
In addition, the ship is adding a new sports bar, Playmakers Sports Bar and Arcade. Here, guests can order traditional bar fare while also watching the game and playing games simultaneously. Arcade classics, such as Skeeball, trivia, tournaments and pool tables, will all be available for guests.
Other new options will include a Johnny Rockets Express and Starbucks.
Indoor Upgrades
Explorer of the Seas activities and entertainment will also make their way indoors with the introduction of a new laser tag experience and a complete redesign of the kids and teens spaces.
Glow-in-the-dark laser tag will debut in Studio B, the venue that also doubles as an ice-skating rink for guests. The latest Royal Caribbean challenge, Clash for the Crystal City laser tag, will pit two teams against each other.
The new Adventure Ocean kids club will also receive a makeover. The program for younger guests and their families will introduce an open layout with whimsical and immersive activities. Kids six to 12 years old will be able to choose their own adventure, while younger children three to five will have specially designed spaces and activities.
Additionally, the teens hangout onboard will sport a new look and features, including the latest in movies, gaming and music, as well as a new private, outdoor deck.
