McCurry is best known for his portrait of the green-eyed Afghan refugee girl in National Geographic. He has spent the past forty years capturing the human experience across many cultures and diverse locations. His photographs have appeared on international magazine covers, in major gallery and museum exhibitions and in permanent and private collections all around the world. He has published more than a dozen books and won a number of awards, including the Robert Capa Gold Medal for his coverage of the war in Afghanistan.

“You’re present, in focus; that’s traveling, to me,” McCurry says. “It’s an urgent need to go and observe this world that we all share.”

Steve McCurry plans to bring his visual storytelling capabilities onto some of Silversea’s new ships and itineraries, capturing images of the exotic locations the cruise line will be making stops a. Silversea Cruises currently provides luxury, smaller-ship cruises (with large-ship amenities) to more than 850 destinations in more than 130 countries on all seven continents. The smaller vessels can navigate narrow waterways to reach ports and destinations otherwise secluded. New destinations to be visited and photographed by McCurry include the Virunga Mountains of East Africa, and the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard.

Coinciding with this partnership is the launching of Silversea’s newest vessel, the Silver Muse. This addition expands the line’s fleet to five active ships. Four more ships—Silver Explorer, Silver Galapagos, Silver Discoverer and Silver Cloud—are set to join the expedition fleet in 2018, bringing the total number of ships to nine.
