Star Clippers has announced the appointment of Mary Grimes to the role of business development executive for the U.S. Western region. In this role, Grimes will focus on developing Star Clippers’ individual and group business, incentive and charters. Her territory will include Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. She will report to Terri Haas, vice president of sales and marketing for Star Clippers, and can be reached at mary.grimes@starclippers.com. She replaces Beth Elwood, who retired from Star Clippers this fall after eight years as BDM for the Western region.
A travel industry veteran with more 25 years’ experience, Grimes began her career as a frontline travel advisor, giving her firsthand insight into agency operations. She has considerable experience in business development, most recently as a BDM and strategic account manager with TravelBound and BDM for the Southwest region with American Cruise Lines. Prior experience includes account management with Travelsavers and in sales with Travel Leaders Franchise Group. She is based in Colorado.
For more than 25 years, Star Clippers has operated modern tall ships, sailing to remote ports in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Central America. The company operates three of the world’s largest and tallest sailing vessels: Star Clipper and Star Flyer are traditional clipper ships with modern amenities carrying 160 guests each, while the 227-guest Royal Clipper holds the Guinness World Record as the largest and only five-masted, fully rigged sailing ship in service today.
