Australis, the cruise line that navigates the waters of Patagonia and Tierra Del Fuego, introduced its new ship – The Ventus -- to guests on January 2, 2018 as it departed Punta Arenas on the “Tierra del Fuego Fjords” route, heading toward Ushuaia, Argentina, on a four-night journey. According to Australis, passengers praised the experience, specifically the comfort of its spaces, the cuisine, and the quality of the service.
Disembarking at some places and sailing on Zodiac boats in others, the routes cover the main points of interest in Tierra del Fuego, the Magellan Strait, Beagle Channel, Cape Horn, glaciers Pía and Águila, and the Alberto de Agostini National Park, located in the Darwin range. Throughout the trip, travelers can observe native forests and local flora and fauna, with species such as sea lions, Magellanic penguins, and Peale’s dolphins, among others.
Additionally, the cruise is complemented by a land excursion across Tierra del Fuego, which includes a stop at a colony of King Penguins and a walkthrough around the local ranches. The excursions are meant to be educational and offer guests a chance to see the natural world. In the evenings, the guides go over what the guests experienced that day and prepare them for the experience of the next. Each excursion ends with a cup of Magellanic hot chocolate or a Scotch whiskey served over 5,000-year-old ice.
The cabins on the Ventus each provide a large picture window so guests can watch the scenery even when they are resting. Plus, an international chef prepares curated menus and wine selections, and the ship’s bar offers a variety of liquors and wines.
