This Week in Cruise: Lines Add More Options for Family Travelers

It’s been a big week for family-friendly cruises. 

In a move aimed at enhancing safety for guests traveling with children, Royal Caribbean has announced plans to add certified lifeguards to all of its pools across its fleet. Lifeguards will be on duty at all pools during opening hours, and the line will also add swim vests for children ages 4 - 12, a water safety presentation in the Adventure Ocean kids program and a teen 411 session on water safety. 

Lifeguards are already on duty onboard Oasis of the Seas, with plans to roll out across the rest of the Royal Caribbean fleet through June. 

In luxury news, Crystal has added a variety of family-friendly options to its lineup of Alaska cruises onboard Crystal Serenity this season. They include a “Kids Sail Free” offer, which adds a complimentary third berth for kids age 17 and under when sailing with two full-fare adults, as well as the “Crystal Memories” program, which offers one free berth of every 10 full-fare guests and shipboard credit for each guests. 

Crystal Serenity also just unveiled redesigned Fantasia and Waves kids and teens areas in 2016 with areas for arts and crafts, as well as PlayStation 4, Nintendo Wii, and Xbox One video game consoles. 

Disney Cruise Line just announced its lineup of summer 2018 itineraries that will add first-time destinations in Italy and Iceland, as well as cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean and the Bahamas

Finally, in dining news, Carnival Sensation just became the latest ship to add a new family-friendly food option, the complimentary poolside Guy’s Burger Joint, developed in partnership with Food Network star Guy Fieri. The ship also unveiled a redesigned Camp Ocean area for children ages 2 - 11 with more than 200 ocean-themed activities, including arts and crafts, science-oriented programming, and more.
