It’s always a good time to keep an eye on new cruise ships on the horizon, and this week has provided several updates to keep on your radar.
Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection has announced the godmother for its newest ship, the S.S. Joie de Vivre: Dame Joan Collins, an award-winning actress, best-selling author and producer. Uniworld will inaugurate the addition to its fleet in a christening ceremony with Dame Joan on March 27 before it sets sail on the Seine River in France, offering a Paris & Normandy itinerary. Dame Joan is an award-winning actress with dozens of film, television and theatrical credits, including the role she played as “Alexis Carrington” on Dynasty.
In ocean news, MSC Cruises marked a key milestone this week in the construction of the new MSC Seaview with the celebration of a coin ceremony at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard in Italy. MSC Seaview is the third next-generation cruise ship that will come into service under MSC Cruises’ ten-year investment plan through 2026. The new ship will come into service in June 2018, sailing the Western Mediterranean in its inaugural summer season before continuing to Brazil in November 2018.
The new ship will have a maximum capacity of 5,179 guests. It will be the second of two ships in the MSC Cruises’ Seaside generation to be built by Fincantieri. Its sibling ship, MSC Seaside, is set to enter service later this year in December 2017 and is scheduled to be christened in Miami, where it will homeport.
Finally, Silversea Cruises has announced that its newest ship, the Silver Muse, will head to Port Everglades on October 12-13. The destination will serve as the new ship's winter homeport for the next two years according to a new agreement between Silversea and the Broward County Commission. The 596-passenger Silver Muse is scheduled for five sailings next year in addition to voyages on Silver Spirit, Silver Whisper and Silver Wind also sailing from Port Everglades. The agreement is for an initial two-year period with the option to renew for an additional three years, with a minimum of 12 sailings annually.
