As military action by Russia continues in Ukraine, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) issued a statement of support for Ukraine. In addition, given the war, Swan Hellenic changed course and adjusted some itineraries. Separately, Carnival Corporation announced that the Micky and Madeleine Arison Family Foundation had pledged $3 million in donations to organizations providing vital medical and humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees displaced or forced to flee abroad. (Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise company, based in Miami-Dade County, FL, was also named one of the best places to work for Latinos.)
As for new tonnage, Silversea Cruises’ new ultra-luxury Silver Dawn, debuted in the Mediterranean. Many travel advisors and media were aboard for the ship's debut.The official christening is scheduled for later this week in Lisbon, Portugal. On the leadership front, Oceania Cruises appointed Frank Del Rio, Jr., as its chief sales and marketing officer.
In, addition, Princess Cruises added two seasoned cruise travel trade executives. Cal Almaguer, a 38-year veteran of the cruise and travel industry, joined Princess as senior vice president, sales and service strategy and operations, while Carmen Roig, a former Crystal Cruises executive, was named the new vice president of sales. On the product front, Princess Cruises has revealed its 2023-2024 South America and Antarctica itineraries. Sales will open April 6, 2022. Also, "Deal or No Deal" will debut on the new Discovery Princess, which began sailing this week.
To assist the trade, Margaritaville at Sea launched a travel advisor website.
As for cruise ports, the Cayman Islands welcomed back cruise ships.
