Norwegian Breakaway will sail from New York City one day later due to the impact of Winter Storm Grayson, a cruise line representative tells Travel Agent.
The ship’s arrival into New York January 5 will be delayed due to the storm. As a result, the ship’s 14-day cruise that was originally scheduled to depart January 5 will now depart January 6 at 3 p.m. Norwegian Cruise Line is encouraging guests to arrive at the pier on Saturday morning due to the ship’s late arrival and the ongoing weather situation. All guests must be onboard by 1 p.m. January 6. At the same time, guests unable to adjust their travel plans can still board Friday evening between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., Norwegian said.
The ship will sail a slightly adjusted itinerary that will be communicated to guests onboard. All guests will receive a refund of one day of their cruise fare in the form of an onboard credit.
“We sincerely thank our guests for their understanding of this unexpected change due to the weather and apologize to our guests for any disruption to their schedule,” the cruise line said in a statement provided to Travel Agent.
The storm also delayed the departure of Cunard's Queen Mary 2 from New York, a Cunard representative tells Travel Agent. The ship, which had been scheduled to sail the evening of January 3, instead departed January 4 at 7 a.m. The ship is now sailing en route to Southampton, England, for an on-schedule arrival on January 10.
Following the passage of the storm Wednesday and Thursday, airports in the northeast have resumed operations, although flight delays are likely to continue. A number of airlines are offering flight change waivers for affected passengers – you can view the full list here.
