Allianz Partners’ Top 10 Spring Break Destinations review reveals that warm weather favorites Orlando, Florida and Cancun, Mexico, will draw in the most American visitors in 2023. While there is strong demand for North American sun and sand this spring, the survey also revealed that European destinations are on Americans’ minds more than ever this year.
The travel insurance and assistance company analyzed more than 2.6 million flight itineraries* for Spring Break trips between five and eight days in length and found that 84 percent of the itineraries reviewed are for domestic trips and 16 percent of travelers are headed internationally.
For the eighth consecutive year, Orlando, Florida, is the top domestic destination for American travelers, followed by Phoenix, Arizona (#2), New York, New York (#3), Las Vegas, Nevada (#4) and Los Angeles, California (#5). Florida’s beaches and sunshine continue to attract visitors with Fort Lauderdale (#6), Tampa (#7) and Miami (#8) making waves this Spring Break season, while Americans are also heading West to Seattle, Washington (#9) and Salt Lake City, Utah (#10).
Mexico has continuously dominated as the number-one destination for an international spring vacation, with four of its cities making the international Top 10 destinations in 2023, including Cancun (#1), San Jose del Cabo (#2), Puerto Vallarta (#4), and Mexico City (#8). Other notable destinations featured on the Top 10 roster this year include London, England (#6), which jumped four positions year over year, and Paris, France (#9), which makes its debut in the top Spring Break getaways list, the first time since the survey’s inception in 2015.
“While London and Paris made moves on the international roster this year, fun in the sun is a Spring Break theme that continues to drive most of Americans' destination selections,” said Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners USA. “No matter where you choose to vacation, including travel insurance on your packing list for this year's getaway helps protect your travel investment against unexpected situations that may impact your trip.”
