ASTA Destination Expo Wraps Inaugural Session in Nairobi, Kenya

The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) just celebrated the successful start of the ASTA Destination Expo in Nairobi, Kenya. The event welcomed hundreds of U.S. travel agents, suppliers and tourism executives to better educate them on the culture and history of Kenya and provide them with knowledge on how to sell the destination.

The ATSA Destination Expo was headed by U.S. Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec and Kenyan Secretary of Tourism Najib Balala. 

“With the steadfast support of the ATSA Kenya Chapter and the Kenya Ministry of Tourism, we are able to offer this one-of-a-kind experience for our members, domestic and international,” said Zane Kerby, ASTA president and CEO. “Participating travel professionals will gain by first-hand experience of an amazing destination that will help them expand their businesses and win new customers, and Kenya will win with an increase in visitors to the region that this motivated and trained new sales force will introduce.” 

The ASTA Destination Expo is a face-to-face learning experience that offers participants information on industry issues, access to local and regional contacts; and the opportunity to become highly-sought after destination specializes in an important and growing tourism region.

During the session in Kenya, ASTA announced the first-ever event between the U.S. and Chinse tourism industry, the ASTA China Summit. The ASTA China Summit will take place in Guiyang, China November 8-12, 2017. Guiyang Tourism Development Committee, the Guizhou Tourism Development Commission, China Southern Airlines, Beyond Summits Ltd., and the ASTA China Chapter will all be in attendance. 

ASTA and NACTA members will also have the opportunity to learn to sell the Islands of the Bahamas at the ASTA/NACTA Bahamas Showcase June 21-24, 2017.
