Barcelona’s Las Ramblas Sealed Off After Van Crashes Into Crowd

Barcelona’s popular tourist attraction, Las Ramblas, has been sealed off after a van plowed into a crowd of people.

CNN reports that the incident caused several injuries, according to local police. Emergency services have requested the closure of metro and train stations in the vicinity.

Update: One or two armed men barricaded themselves inside a bar following the attack, the BBC reports. Additionally, police now say they are treating the incident as a terrorist attack.

According to Express.co.uk, some tourists report having taken refuge in shops and cafes, which have been closed up.

“I saw a woman next to me screaming for her kid,” one witness told Express.co.uk. “Police were very quickly there, officers with guns. It was chaos, you couldn’t tell what was happening.”

The Irish Times reports that police have also requested travelers avoid the area around Placa de Catalunya.
