The government of the British Virgin Islands entered into a development agreement with Audubon Holdings to develop Norman Island as an environmentally conscious luxury destination. With luxury and tourist projects planned, the endeavor expects to leave over half the island as green space.
The project, will be developed in association with the Atlanta-based United States company Bullock Mannelly Partners. The plan calls for building 75 to 100 residences of various sizes, to be constructed along 13 miles of shoreline and a four-and-a-half-mile ridge line. Buyers will design their own residences with the assistance of local architects and builders.
The plan also includes sites for three possible 20-30 room hotels, boat slips, a spa and an observatory. Near the Pirate’s Bight restaurants, developers will expand the existing facilities to add another restaurant, a floating pool, a beach bar and a water sports center.
“This project offers an exciting opportunity to create hundreds of business opportunities and good jobs and establish a model for environmentally sustainable development,” said Henry Jarecki, owner of Audubon Holdings.
The Bight, a unique natural anchorage, will continue to provide overnight moorings for boaters, while day visitors will have access to the expanded tourism facilities through Norman Island’s existing ferry service and day dockage. The first phase of the project, subject to meeting planning and environmental approvals, is expected to start in 2019.
