The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has declared 2019 the Year of Festivals in the Caribbean. According to CTO’s secretary general Hugh Riley, the program will highlight the various music, art, sailing, lights, food, rum, religious, literary and dance festivals celebrated throughout the region
Next year’s marketing program follows 2018’s successful Year of Rejuvenation campaign. The organization will promote the 2019 Year of Festivals over social media and traditional media channels. Additionally, it will assist member countries with a variety of promotional concepts and opportunities centered on the theme of festivals, appealing to consumers and travel professionals.
“The Year of Festivals will focus on the fascinating events that have become an integral part of the Caribbean tourism calendar,” said Riley. “Festivals help to energize communities across the region, while giving visitors more reasons to enjoy our destinations.”
With offices in New York and London and representation in Canada, the CTO hold its headquarters in Barbados. In addition to members from the private sector, the tourism development agency includes representatives from the governments of Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Montserrat, Puerto Rico, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts and Nevis, Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Maarten, Sint Martin, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Tobago and Turks and Caicos.
