The Ministry of Health in Chile has updated the "Protected Borders Plan" to protect international travelers and Chilean residents. The COVID-19 PCR and antigen tests that were required upon arrival are no longer mandatory. Instead, visitors are subject to random testing.
Visitors can enter Chile through dedicated airports in Santiago, Iquique, Antofagasta and Punta Arenas. Visitors may also enter through land borders including Paso Futaleufú, Paso Huemules, Paso Jeinimeni, Paso Monte Aymond and Paso Los Libertadores.
As per the updated travel entry requirements, all non-resident foreigners (tourists) who present a complete vaccination certificate scheme valid by the Ministry of Health in Chile are allowed to enter the country. All non-resident foreigners (tourists) below six years who have not been able to access vaccination against COVID-19 can also enter Chile. Additionally, all non-resident foreigners (tourists) who meet any of the exceptions contained in Decree 295 of the Ministry of the Interior are also eligible for entry into Chile.
Unvaccinated foreigners above six years who don’t have a regular residence or a complete vaccination scheme valid by the Ministry of Health and that comply with any of the exceptions contained in Decree 295 of the Ministry of Interior cannot enter the country.
All travelers will have to complete a series of mandatory requirements to enter Chile. Travelers must have a negative PCR taken 72 hours before boarding. In flights with stopovers, the last boarding point is considered. In case of entering by land, it cannot be older than 72 hours from the taking of the sample. This requirement applies to every person above two years.
Every traveler, irrespective of age, is required to complete the form “Sworn Declaration of Travelers” electronically and up to 48 hours before boarding. The form is available online (www.c19.cl). Travelers must fill out this form and attach the result of the negative PCR test taken 72 hours before boarding.
Chilean citizens, residents, and non-resident foreigners who comply with one or more of the special requirements in Decree 102 of the Ministry of the Interior will not need health insurance. Other travelers must have health insurance with a minimum coverage of $30,000.
Travelers to Chile are required to have completed a vaccination program (two doses), which must be validated online prior to their arrival. The vaccination approval period will be informed to the traveler at the time of making the request—a procedure that may take up to 30 days. Children below six years and non-resident foreigners who comply with one or more of the special requirements in Decree 102 of the Ministry of the Interior may enter without a complete vaccination program.
Prior to their travel, visitors must create an account online and fill out a form with personal information and attach documents that certify their vaccination status. Since every country has its own method of vaccination certificates, the Chilean authorities require a digital certificate with an electronic signature or a QR code that confirms that an official government agency issued the information. Those who have physical documentation, which cannot be corroborated in any electronic system, must present their documents accompanied by additional background information such as passport and laboratory test results to certify that they have positive lgM/lgG antibodies against COVID-19.
