The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), a company representing tourism interests, attended the second formal meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Action Network on Post-Disaster Recovery.
Hurricane season is moving towards peak months, so several of the Association’s senior officials were among more than 350 leaders from government, business and civil society who were part of discussions assembled by Mr. Bill Clinton, 42nd President of the United States, on August 7, as various Caribbean nations’ continued efforts to fix the damage from hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017.
CHTA President Patricia Affonso-Dass led a delegation that included CHTA Immediate Past President Karolin Troubetzkoy; Chief Operating Officer Vanessa Ledesma; Chief Marketing Officer Matt Cooper; Director of Membership Development, Martha Valdivia; and Director of Communications, Adriana Serna to the CGI forum at the University of Miami.
CTHA’s involvement in CGI’s discussions follows close behind its announcement with nonprofit organization, Tourism Cares, that their joint initiative—the Caribbean Tourism Recovery Fund—has raised over US $275,000 in charitable donations to create long-term recovery and helping hurricane-impacted destinations bounce back.
The CTHA has created a Disaster Preparedness Manual to be given to industry stakeholders. The guide is designed to help local initiatives develop communications preparedness and the response and recovery process for CHTA members, private and public-sector industry stakeholders and national tourism organizations.
