Five Great Outdoor Terraces in Paris

It’s summer in the city and Parisians are flocking to outdoor terraces to sip the trendiest cocktails du jour or a crisp glass of rosé, all while enjoying fine and casual dining. Sunset doesn’t arrive till after 10PM in June and July, so it’s time to take advantage of the long nights by drinking and dining at the best outdoor terraces Paris has to offer. We’ve compiled a list of five of our favorites.

Brach

The in crowd always follows designer Philippe Starck to his latest venture, and Hotel Brach is no exception. Open since February, the hotel is a smash hit, and it has opened a hidden 5,000-square-foot terrace just in time for summer. The décor and furniture are comfy and relaxed, with touches of natural materials including oak, metal, leather and marble. Chef Adam Bentalha prepares an Asian- and Oceania-inspired menu with creative dishes such as truffle dim sum, Bluefin tuna poke bowls, and mocha ice cream. Creative cocktails are also available.

BBP Canal

Craft beer has suddenly taken off in Paris, and hipsters can’t get enough of it. The Brussels Beer Project has launched a second location on the Canal Saint Martin, with a wide terrace overlooking the canal. Over 20 types of beers on tap are available, along with a decadent brunch menu served everyday. Dishes include pancakes, a chicken waffle, avocado toast, club sandwich and eggs.

Lou Lou

With an unobstructed view of the Eiffel Tower in the distance, the Lou Lou restaurant inside the verdant Tuileries garden with lush manicured hedges and lawns is the place to be in summer. The spacious outdoor terrace is elegantly decorated with all white umbrellas, seat cushions and linen. The menu leans on the Italian side with fresh burratta, veal Milanese, violet artichokes with Parmigiano reggiano cheese, and vitello tonnato. Shaken martinis come in fun flavors such as raspberry, litchi, apple, cucumber, Bellini and, of course, a straight up dry one.

Mon Coeur Belleville

Come and watch the magnificent sunset going down on the Eiffel Tower. Perched high above the city on a quiet corner, Mon Coeur Belleville is considered one of the top terraces in Paris. Cool and casual, Mon Coeur Belleville also has one of the most popular brunches in town, where people line up to enjoy their organic coffee, eggs benedict, yogurt and granola, smoked salmon, carrot cake and chocolate bread. For July and August the light summer menu offers sharing plates and tapas.

Chez Julien

Not only does Chez Julien have one of the prettiest dining rooms in Paris with hand painted ceilings from the turn of the century, it boasts an idyllic outdoor terrace. Located in the historic Marais quarter, the terrace is set in an ancient, cobble stone alleyway overlooking the striking gothic style Saint Gervais Church, constructed in 1657. Chez Julien offers a modern menu of French favorites including sole Menuiere and a memorable Chateaubriand for two plus a killer crème brulee to finish. A special all truffle menu is available at the request of the chef.
