Lake Tahoe Adventure: A Small Slice of Heaven

Alyse Cori of Travelwize took some time off from her Sonoma, CA home base this summer for some R&R in Lake Tahoe. Here’s her report.

We’re just back from a small slice of heaven at Edgewood Tahoe Resort. This hidden gem, located on the Nevada/California border, is the perfect escape and a breath of fresh air (literally). Not only is it located directly on Lake Tahoe, where temperatures ranged from the 40s in the morning to the mid-80s in the afternoon, it is also on the golf course, has well-maintained grounds, a heated pool, spa (by reservation only right now), fitness center, complimentary shuttle bus and fire pits galore.

As we arrived, we were greeted by a staff of valets/bellmen with masks on, as they waited to offer their services. (Masks are required inside the resort.)

Upon check-in, six feet socially distanced signs appeared on the floor, as we were welcomed by a friendly staff, a glass of champagne and a little gift bag that included Edgewood Tahoe masks and a hand sanitizer. The hotel was spotless.

We were fortunate enough to get a lakeview room with balcony and fireplace. The bed faces the lake so the views are amazing. The bathroom has a separate tub, shower, toilet area, two sinks and luxurious bathrobes and great amenities. The bed linens are fresh and the mattress quite comfortable. I felt spoiled.

Alyse Cori, who recently visited Edgewood Tahoe Resort, calls it a gem.

We dined at the Bistro Restaurant indoors (outdoor seating is also available) with its tables socially distanced. (Reservations are required as the restaurant is operating at 50 percent.) I couldn’t ask for a better waiter who not only made great suggestions but was friendly and didn’t rush our anniversary dinner. Of course, it is lakeview, and we enjoyed the sunset while we dined. The food was of good quality and they served nice sized portions. We opted for complimentary s’mores for dessert by one of the many fire pits on property.

There are two other restaurants which we unfortunately didn’t have enough time to sample. This is a great property for couples, solo travelers, small group gatherings, as well as families. Tahoe offers many water sports, great hiking trails, horseback riding, skiing nearby, shopping and gambling. It is truly a very special place. I now know why Edgewood Tahoe Resort is one of the newest members of Virtuoso. It is a homey luxury hotel with all the bells & whistles. I do have one complaint: I only stayed two nights and should have made it three. I was sad to leave, but there’s no question that I will return.

Lake Tahoe has a small airport but many choose to fly into Reno, NV, rent a car and drive the 63 miles.
