Earlier this week, Outrigger Resorts announced its latest global conservation plan. As part of World Oceans Month, OZONE (Outrigger’s ZONE) attempts to preserve the coral reefs surrounding Outrigger Resorts’ tropical hotels and beaches around the world. Through the initiative, OZONE recognizes that significant environmental changes, such as global warming, unsustainable fishing, and pollution threaten the health and livelihood of the world’s coral reefs.
Geoffrey Shaw, chairman of the Mamanuca Environmental Society, inspired the initiative after devoting his time to protect the aquatic life at Castaway Island, Fiji. In conjunction with the initiative, guests at Outrigger Resorts will have the chance to plant coral at select hotels and learn more about marine life through the initiative’s education program. Guests will also have the option to learn more about OZONE’s global plans through in-room videos, on-site lectures, and wildlife conservation initiatives in the Hawaiian Islands, Fiji, Australia, and South East Asia.
