Pacific Delight has announced its second southeast Asian Jewish interest tour, Southeast Asia through Jewish Eyes. The 15-day trip, led by Rabbi Rachel Safman, will visit Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia.
The trip, departing on December 11, will start off in Singapore. Here, guests will experience Shabbat at the historic Chesed El Synagogue, go on a night safari and visit Marina Bay.
The next stop will be Thailand. Participants will take a boat on Bangkok’s “River of Kings” to the Temple of Dawn and the Grand Palace. Next, they will stop for lunch at the “backpacker’s shul” and then see Chiang Mai’s rainforests and hill tribes.
In Myanmar, the tour will take guests to the 19th century Musmeah Yeshua Synagogue where they will learn about the history of the remote synagogue and its 126 Torah scrolls. This will be followed by Shabbat with the Jewish community in Yangon. In the country’s capital, Bagan, travelers will be able to explore “the city of 4 million pagodas.”
The trip will finish in Cambodia. In Siem Reap, guests will meet an Israeli environmentalist helping conservation efforts in Cambodia’s rainforests. Other important stops here will include Ta Prohm, Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat.
The tour package costs $6,798 per person based on double occupancy. This price covers round trip airfare from Los Angeles, transportation throughout the trip, all meals, sightseeing costs, boat trips and gratuities. The price does not include air taxes, fuel surcharges and visa fees for Myanmar and Cambodia.
