Sports fans traveling to Molokai might like the Molokai Hoe men's canoe race on Oct. 8. The event draws paddling teams from Hawaii and around the world, crossing the challenging Kaiwi Channel, which flows between the two islands on a 41-mile course from Hale O Lono Harbor on Molokai to Waikiki Beach on Oahu.

Basketball enthusiasts might like the 2017 Maui Invitational, a premier early-season men's college basketball tournament featuring teams battling for the Wayne Duke Championship Trophy from Nov. 20 - 22.
