The Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board has announced that the destination is welcoming the return of events. A full schedule of cultural and culinary events in 2022 has been unveiled, besides the return of the weekly Island Fish Fry. This marks a significant milestone for the destination following a two-year hiatus related to the pandemic.
The Island Fish Fry will take place on Thursday evenings at PTV Stubbs Diamond Plaza on Providenciales from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and will include over a dozen restaurant and souvenir vendors, besides a live band and cultural performances. The schedule of events for the remainder of the year is as follows.
South Caicos Regatta, also known as "The Big South Regatta," is a tradition since 1967. It is a four-day celebration on South Caicos, which will be held in the last weekend of May, featuring boat races, concerts, food, entertainment and the annual Miss Regatta Pageant.
TI Summajam on Grand Turk will be held in the last weekend of June. It will feature the Miss and Little Miss Grand Turk Beauty Pageant, with live band and entertainment, culminating with a fun day on Governor’s Beach.
“Race for the Conch” Eco-SeaSwim is an annual event that hosts one- and half-mile races on the waters of Grace Bay. The event will be held on June 25. It is open to novices and experienced swimmers. Proceeds from the race go to local charities including Provo Children’s Home, the Turks & Caicos Reef Fund and the Turks & Caicos Islands Swim Federation.
The Turks & Caicos International Film Festival is a weekend affair to be held in the second week of November. With a focus on the ocean and natural environments, it features premieres, master classes and film stars such as Delroy Lindo.
Maskanoo is a celebration of Turks and Caicos’ West African and Caribbean heritage that stemmed from the practice of 19th-century slaves celebrating Christmas by mocking the costume balls of the affluent. The event is held near Grace Bay and features vendors, music, fireworks and food. It will take place on December 26.
New Year’s Day Junkanoo is a street parade where islanders are decked up in bejeweled masks and handmade costumes playing traditional Caribbean music. It is held on January 1.
