Following the Russian attack on Ukraine, the Globus family of brands canceled all upcoming tours to Russia, Travel Agent is told.
“Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine during this difficult time,” said Steve Born, chief marketing officer, in a statement provided to us. “The Globus family of brands is committed to the safety of our guests and as a result, we have proactively canceled upcoming tours to Russia.
“We will continue to monitor the situation closely. If further alterations are needed, we will make them and update travelers and their advisors. We are hopeful for a quick and peaceful resolution to the situation.”
Travel Agent reached out to several other tour operators, including Intrepid Travel, The Travel Corporation (which owns Trafalgar Tours, Insight Vacations, Luxury Gold and others) and Pleasant Holidays/Journese, and most said they do not operate tours in the affected regions.
A spokesperson from The Travel Corporation told us, “We are closely monitoring the Russia-Ukraine conflict. As always, the welfare and well-being of our guests and team members are our top priority.
“The Travel Corporation brands do not have any tours operating in the affected areas at present and all of our European tours are operating normally.
“Anyone booked to travel to Russia in 2022 will hear from us directly about their options for rescheduling or alternative travel destinations.”
Matt Berna, Intrepid Travel’s managing director for North America, said: “Most importantly, our thoughts are with the people in Ukraine, including our own team members, tour leaders and their families who are based there. Intrepid Travel is not currently operating any tours that visit Ukraine or Russia, but in the short term, we do anticipate a softening of sales to Europe from the U.S.A.”
Travel Agent also reached out to Abercrombie & Kent, Classic Vacations and Tauck and is awaiting response.
