Apple Leisure Group (ALG) and its AMResorts subsidiary report that they have broken ground on the new Breathless Cancun Resort & Spa, the third Breathless-branded property in Mexico. Slated to open in 2021, the $160 million project will be located in Cancun’s Hotel Zone, and it will have 429 guestrooms and suites. It will also offer the Breathless brand’s “Unlimited Luxury” concept.
Quintana Roo State Governor Carlos Joaquín Gonzaléz presided over the groundbreaking ceremony, joined by Alex Zozaya, CEO of ALG; Mara Lezama, mayor of the Municipality of Benito Juárez; Francisco Javier Luque, president of Fuerte Group; Marisol Venegas, secretary of tourism of the State of Quintana Roo; and Armando Palma Peniche and Armando Palma Vargas of Grupo Promotora Residencial.
“Despite the challenges that continue to impact the tourism industry in Mexico, ALG maintains its commitment to Cancun and other destinations in the country,” Zozaya said at the event.
Javier Coll, executive vice president and chief strategy officer for ALG, added that the property would help to meet growing demand in Cancun for luxury accommodations and offerings.
The move represents the latest expansion for AMResorts and the Breathless brand. Most recently, the company announced plans for a new Breathless resort in Tulum, a 300-suite property set to begin construction in the second quarter of this year and with a planned opening date in the second half of 2021. All told, AMResorts has more than 30 properties representing seven brands in Mexico.
