Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya has announced the appointment of Christopher Shiel as director of sales and marketing. In his new role, Shiel will be responsible for the sales strategies and initiatives for the resort, as well as the development of brand and marketing partnerships and maximization of revenue streams for 2022 and beyond.
With nearly 15 years of leadership experience in the hospitality industry, Shiel brings a robust background with luxury lifestyle-driven hotels in New York City, a key geographic market for Andaz Mayakoba. In this new position, he will bring his knowledge of the lifestyle hotel segment to his first international property.
Shiel began his career in 2007 at the InterContinental Hotel Group, then moved to the Denihan Hospitality Group where he served as director of sales for four years. Also in the New York market, he led sales and marketing initiatives at the Refinery Hotel in Midtown Manhattan. He has worked with the Hyatt Hotels Corporation for six years, first as director of sales and marketing at the Smyth, a Thompson Hotel in Tribeca and most recently in the same position at Hotel 50 Bowery. Through his tenure in these roles, he acquired extensive experience renovating and repositioning assets, creating digital marketing strategies, executing brand partnerships and managing third-party agencies.
“My strong passion for travel, adventure and cultures makes this an exciting opportunity. I look forward to continuing my journey with the Hyatt Hotels Corporation alongside the incredible Andaz Mayakoba team,” said Shiel in a press note. “I’m excited to expand upon the work the team has already put in place and develop new strategies and programming to drive the property’s growth in the coming years.”
