Bahia Principe Sets Up Environmental Strategy to Develop Samaná

Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts’ is creating an environmental strategy to transform Samaná, Dominican Republic into an internationally recognized ecological destination.

“Our strategic proposal responds to the main environmental needs that exist in the area, such as waste management, involving local actors to be the catalysts of change to allow the differentiation and positioning of the destination as a biodiverse, clean and sustainable place,” said Pablo del Toro, head of environmental management at Grupo Piñero, Bahia Principe’s parent company, in a written statement.

The strategy will commence in 2020, led by Grupo Piñero and the German Development Cooperation, GIZ, through agreements with several regional and national entities and the develoPPPP program, promoted by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The strategy will also be supported through agreements with institutions and administrations, like the Ministries of Education and Environment and Natural Resources of the Dominican Republic. Biodiversity awareness programs and education in Principe Hotels & Resorts establishments as well as in public schools in Samaná will be implemented with their support.

Samaná—home to Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo, Grand Bahia Principe Cayacoa, Luxury Bahia Principe Samana and Luxury Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado—is part of the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. Attractions include the nature-rich Los Haitises National Park and cascading waterfall Salto del Limon.
